Our family project for 2011

New Years Resolutions are notoriously hard to keep. To the point I didn’t even bother this year. Next year I’m making just one:

Each week, every Saturday, our family will head off in search of a park. It doesn’t matter what type of park, necessarily where it is (although most will be around the Sunshine Coast and the northern suburbs of Brisbane), just that it’s somewhere our family can enjoy our Saturday afternoons together.

I’m sure the weather will sometimes be against us, but that will just make me determined to find a park with shelter. I’m sure we’ll have other challenges. Family commitments. Work commitments. But we’re going to do our best to check out 52 parks in 2011.

We have three girls, aged 7, 6 and 2 (3 in February). They are pretty typical girly girls, and with ballet threatening to overtake our lives in 2011, I feel it’s important to try and maintain some balance between formal dance classes three days a week, and finding time to allow them to play. To fly a kite, practice bike riding, play chasey, cricket. Anything really.

With both my husband and I working full time, finding that time is a challenge. So for 2011, every Saturday afternoon is booked. Let the games begin!

PS. Yes, I am well aware there are 53 Saturdays in 2011, but 53 Parks just doesn’t have the same ring to it, now does it?

  1. That sounds like a great plan!

  2. Cool! Should be fun.

  3. Love this, it’s such a great idea. If you ever come to the Gold Coast I can recommend some great ones for you!! The new Park at the Broadwater opposite Australia Fair is brilliant.
